We have an expression- laughing out loud- that we use to explain that we really thought something was funny. It is such a popular expression that these days we abbreviate it- LOL- when using social media, to convey the idea that we thought that was funny. We do it face to face as well, we laugh out loud when something makes us happy.

Holidays are over
We are in the last week of our Summer holidays now.
The end of 6 weeks of not having to go out much.
Not having to get everyone out the door early in the morning.
Not having tired, worn out kids every afternoon.
Not having to plan for every week and every day so carefully to avoid major meltdowns.
It has been wonderful.

What I wish teachers knew
I was involved in an online discussion recently where we were asked
What are the top five things that you'd like those working within the education system to understand about your children?

"She is Autistic"
I talked a few posts ago about how it can be a real shock to receive a diagnosis for your child. I want to go into that a bit more. First some history.....

Being a parent is a privilege
I was involved in an online discussion recently in which some ladies were talking about ways to avoid getting stretch marks, or failing that, to get rid of them. A few ladies commented proudly that they didn't get any stretch marks from being pregnant. Others were so keen to get rid of them. Many had tips about products to use to help them get their youthful skin back. I couldn't help feeling sad about the discussion.
Some things about life with Aspergers
I have been spending a fair bit of time recently writing a little document to give to L's Year Advisor when school starts this year. She asked for it so she can get to know L better and share it with each of his teachers so they can gain some insight about what will be helpful for him in terms of settling in to High School.

I can't sleep
Sometimes I just can't sleep. I'll lie there for hours, waiting to go to sleep, but I don't. Lately I find myself thinking that my arms are all in the way and I can't get comfortable. I am lying in bed thinking about my arms, and then about all the other times over the years I have suffered periods of insomnia.

Diagnoses are like duck poo
A few things about me-
I love gardening.
I love not wearing shoes.
I love not wearing shoes especially when I can walk on long cool grass.
I used to have pet ducks.
What did I sign up for?
You know when you are a teen, and you have this idea of what it will be like to be a grown up?
Well, I was going to marry a guy and we were going to live happily ever after and have 6 kids and a dog and a few cats on a little farm.
