  1. I cannot agree enough with this post Michelle. We are also in the NSW public system and both my ASD school aged kids receive no funding for their condition. My son, luckily, gets some assistance because of his vision impairment but it's really not enough. He is surviving at the moment as the school is ensuring his needs are met as well as they can be but that is obviously, at the expense of others. he will be moving into Year 5 this year so the demands will be harder and the stress on him increasing. We are already looking at high school options and I don;t really like what I see there. I will share your thoughts as they would make a difference to all students, not just those on the spectrum. I am looking forward to reading your information on distance education and home schooling in future posts. BTW happy new year to you and your family x

    1. Hi Kirsty, Happy New Year!
It's hard isn't it? We really value public education, and want to support it as we believe it should be there and free and accessible to all..... but when it fails to meet your childs needs and instead induces anxiety and causes harm there is no option but to remove your child. We are fortunate to be in a position to do this without huge financial stress, but many aren't. It really is a failing of those who are supposed to look after the vulnerable and represent their needs to others.
      Anyway, enough of my ranting.
I wish you and your son the very best for this year. I hope year 5 goes well for him.

  2. This is so very true and accurate. In the U.S. these changes would make a world of difference. Great post, thank you!

    1. It's such a shame that what seems so obvious to us is not seen by those who have the power to do something about it!
