We bought year passes to Luna Park half way through last year (tax return treat!). I planned on entertaining the two ASD kids while Adventure Hubby went on rides with the others.

Goals and how we try to reach them...
This question was asked yesterday, in a fantastic online support group for ASD families- How do you talk to your child and siblings about their autism, if at all?
This is a significant issue in our house at the moment because both ASD kids seem to be going through really obvious social awkward stages at present. Here is the answer I posted:

Lefthandedness, and other things that should be hidden
4 year old G is pretty much ambidextrous. It's a handy skill, really. She draws with both hands, she eats with both hands, she can ride her scooter equally well leading with either foot. She seems to prefer to write her name with her left hand.

Courage
Well- it was a long week. I decided to take an internet break mid week, to help myself avoid unnecessary stress. No news, no Facebook, no email. I figure that sometimes the stuff that goes on in my real life is enough.

Stop the ride- I want to get off
I tried a ride at Luna Park last time we went that I didn't want to go on. G really did want to go on it, so I went with her. It's called the Rotor. You get in this round room and stand against the wall and it spins fast until you are stuck to the wall so that when they drop the floor down you stay right where you are.

Dirty washing, fighting children and puppy wee
After another insomniac start to my sleep last night, I was woken this morning by 4 very noisy children. In their defence, it was 8.30 and definitely time I was up and about,

Running away
G has a habit of running away. She has done it ever since she could walk.

Tough decisions
I'll admit that I do tend to be juggling a lot of things all at once. I've speculated a bit about why I do this, and come to the conclusion that I just like to have a busy mind as it stops me obsessing about just one or two stressful things all the time.

Parenting tactics
Fixit Hubby is downstairs working on the back door lock on my car. It's been playing up for a while, and he's been thinking about it in the back of his head for as long as it has been playing up. Tonight he's had an idea, so he's trying it out.

Why sunflowers are my favourite flower
Sunflowers are great. They start off as this tiny little seed. They sprout these two tiny little leaves. They have to manage not to be eaten by snails and slugs,

Meltdowns
You will see throughout this blog the word meltdown appears from time to time. I thought it might be worth explaining what a meltdown is- or at least what I mean when I say it!
