How are Racism, Autism and Vulnerability related, you might be wondering. Let me explain my train of thought. I'll get to Vulnerability in a minute, but first Racism and Autism.....

Be aware!
April is Autism Awareness month. I've been thinking about what I want to say about this. Seems like I should be grabbing the opportunity of an official awareness month with both hands and doing something amazing.

Almost 13
In just over a month I will have two teenaged children. Oh my!! Surely I am not old enough for that?!
This impending milestone has me reflecting on the parenting journey L has taken me on. And wondering about what is in store for him in the future.

what does it take to parent a child with ASD- from the horses mouths
In an online support group today the question was asked "What are the top 5 personality strengths needed to juggle all the roles you led as parent/ carer/ advocate/ partner....?". Of course the responses poured in!

6 things I wish I could explain about myself as a "Special Needs Parent"
I read an article today, called 6 Things You Don't Know About A Special Needs Parent. It was a great article. It started me thinking about what things I would like to explain to others about myself to help them understand me and maybe give an insight into why I sometimes react differently than expected. As I thought about it I realised some of my list is the same, and some is different. Here's my list of things that I wish it was easy to explain about myself as a parent of ASD kids.

The weirder the better
Yesterday I posted about some struggles I am having, and how sometimes I have to do things that make people stare in order to keep my daughter safe.

Doing the hard yards
Hubby and I have been talking about G today. We don't often get a lot of time to really talk things through, so when we do we tend to go to the important stuff first.

Pets help- and so do moths, butterflies, worms, lizards and slaters.
I have been reading recently about pets as therapy, and looking in to a program fairly close to us that provides Assistance Dogs to Autistic children.

A great take on Autism
I don't have a lot to say today, but I do want to share something that someone else said. I came across this great little video, made by a young lady named Rosie who has Aspergers Syndrome. It is called My Autism and Me and you can view it by clicking here. Rosie is my hero for the week!
